Key Idea: A custom domain allows you to display any domain name you own for your business instead of the generic N-Vu domain names, like enjoyphotos.com.
Note: You must own a Custom Domain to use this feature. You can purchase one from a third party domain provider.
What is a Custom Domain?
A Custom Domain will allow you to replace N-Vu’s gallery domain (www.enjoyphotos.com) with your subdomain, photos.myphotography.com. These two URLs become equivalent with only your subdomain showing as the web address. This is a great way to promote your brand to clients when they view your galleries!
Step 1 - Log into your domain provider, or DNS host
Log into the account dashboard where your domain or DNS is hosted. This may or may not be the same vendor who sold you the domain. Changes can only be made where your domain is hosted. For example, if you have purchased your domain from GoDaddy, and use WordPress for hosting, your adjustments will be to your domain in your WordPress dashboard.
Step 2 - Go to your DNS settings
Once logged in to your domain host, locate DNS settings, which are typically found in domain management.
Step 3 - Create a CNAME record
Add a new CNAME record. Typically you will see the following fields for the CNAME record:
- Type
Select CNAME as the record type.
- Alias (or Host)
Enter a subdomain name. The “www” in your domain is replaced with your subdomain choice and will look like this: client.yourdomain.com, photos.yourdomain.com or gallery.yourdomain.com. Popular choices include: client, photos, and gallery.
-Points To
Enter the web address exactly as shown: clients.enjoyphotos.com
- TTL
Enter the time minimum required so there is no delay in the time it takes to propagate across the Internet. DNS changes can take up to 72 hours to propagate across the entire internet.
Step 4 - Update your N-Vu Account
- Step 4a: From Manage Account, select Brands and Studio Info.
- Step 4b: Scroll to the bottom of Brands and follow these three steps
- Step 4c: We also provide the option to create a custom URL once you set up a custom domain. To do this go to share within you Client Galley and click Customize URL.
Once your DNS propagation finishes you will be good to go!
