Yes.
Images are compressed but our method does not affect print resolution.
Here is the how and why...
Upon upload we copy an original version of your images to a back-up drive so that we can ensure your gallery and fulfillment choice throughout the gallery lifecycle.
We also make various copies so that the browsing experience is fast for your client and so that we have a printable, full resolution file that requires less storage space.
How our compression technology works…
- Our compression algorithm identifies similarities between many of the pixels and then replaces them with fewer pixels in those areas, therefore reducing the weight of the file. This will not affect the clarity of the image when enlarged for printing.
- Image Compression will mathematically represent image data with minimum redundancy. Images with areas of similar color, will see a greater reduction in image file size because like pixels are described with less data redundancy. i.e. fewer bytes.
- For digital downloads, N-Vu's technology retains image resolution (number of pixels) and uses slight compression to reduce image file size without losing image quality. This allows your clients to download images quickly, store them in less space while retaining all original pixels so that image quality is imperceptible to the naked eye.
How you can check to make sure your files are full resolution.
Compare the pixel dimensions of the original file to the file that is downloaded from N-Vu. The ratio should be the same.
Need help explaining this to your client? Try this summary...
The images kept online are compressed in a way which removes excess file data that is not needed to accurately display the photo. This process makes the file smaller in megabytes (MB) but not smaller in pixel dimension (resolution).
Our compression method allows us to effectively manage storage space, and offer efficient delivery of images for orders, downloads, and online display, without compromising the original image quality.
